DIWC Scholarship FAQs
Below are answers to questions that we frequently receive from potential applicants. If you have additional questions about the application process, please contact us.
All applicants must:
Be a women of color but not limited to Black or African-American, Native American, Hispanic/Latina and Asian.
Must be a student and attend college or university in the United States.
Must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
Accepted to a summer 2021 study abroad program.
Study abroad program must start in June, July or August to be considered.

All applications must have a personal statement, proof of study abroad program acceptance letter, unofficial transcript (we must receive your official transcript if you are a recipient) and a letter of recommendation.
The recommendation must be written by a teacher, counselor, spiritual leader, employer or other individual, as long as he or she is not related to you. The person writing your recommendation must be able to describe how they know you and support the information you have provided in your scholarship application.
At this time, this scholarship is only available to students enrolled at U.S. institutions. In addition, all applicants must reside in the U.S.
The application dates and deadlines for the 2021 program year are as follows:
Application Period: March 1, 2021 to May 1, 2021
Application Deadline: May 1, 2021
Notification of Awards: June 14, 2021
Distribution of Awards: June 21, 2021
All completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date. Applicants are responsible for verifying that all materials have been submitted.
The DIWC Scholarship Committee reviews all of the applications, which are scored based on GPA, personal statement and letter of recommendation.
Each DIWC recipient will receive $500. The $500 can be used for tuition, book, supplies and personal expenses for your study abroad trip.
DIWC recipients will be notified via their contact information before June 15, 2021.
Winners will receive their award payments electronically via Cash App, Zelle, Western Union or Money Gram.
No, the scholarship is not renewable.
Previous applicants are encouraged to re-apply for the scholarship. Previous recipients of DIWC scholarships are not eligible to reapply.
